L'Laval Universitycommitted to the well-being of its community, was keen to develop psychological first aid tools to deal with traumatic situations, such as accidents, to which its members may be exposed as victims or witnesses.
In fact, these events are far more frequent than we think, affecting between 70% and 90% of individualsover the course of their lives.
Working closely withUniversité Lavaland Steve Geoffrion, a Université de Montréal researcher specializing in psychological first aid, our agency was asked to create a motion design video to raise awareness among the university campus community of the common reactions that occur after exposure to a traumatic event.
This video aims to provide essential information on strategies for dealing with these reactions, symptoms to watch out for, and resources available should the need arise..
We have therefore mobilized our collective expertise in these three key areas:
Each stage of our collaboration has been an opportunity to consolidate our determination to make post-traumatic reactions understandable through accessible scientific communication.
In conjunction with researcher Steve Geoffrion and Florence Ménard, research student-assistant at the Centre for Trauma Studieswe translated scientific knowledge into accessible and instructive language, while ensuring the validity of the information conveyed.
Working in tandem with the research team and our animation team, we developed the visual elements to best represent the video's message. We opted for a lively color palette to counterbalance the seriousness of the subject, created several storyboards to define the expected style of drawings and appropriate animations, and recorded the script with a professional narrator for a narration adapted to the sensitive theme dealt with.
Using validated visual elements, thoughtful transitions and sound recording, our animation team brought the drawings to life through motion design, creating a captivating and informative visual experience.

The resulting video is a valuable resource that addresses post-traumatic reactions, including reliving, avoidance behaviors, negative changes in beliefs and moods, and hyperarousal. It also suggests strategies for coping with these reactions, such as accepting thoughts, gradual re-exposure and the use of breathing and relaxation techniques. Community members are invited to assess themselves by answering five key questions. Finally, the video highlights the psychological first aid services offered by Université Laval. Here's an excerpt.
We are proud to have contributed, alongside Steve Geoffrion, to the creation of this invaluable tool for raising awareness and supporting members of the Université Laval community in dealing with post-traumatic reactions. By making information about these reactions accessible and clear, we aim to reduce the stigma that can surround these experiences.
We applaud Université Laval's initiative, which reflects its commitment to providing essential support to its members and creating an environment conducive to mental health!
