Awareness video for the Coalition Priorité Cancer au Québec: giving patients a voice

Founded in 2001, Coalition Priorité Cancer au Québec's mission is to give a strong voice to those affected by cancer, and to contribute to the improvement of Quebec's healthcare system.

Against a backdrop of parliamentary discussions on Bill 3 on access to data in the healthcare sector, the Coalition was keen to ensure that the voices of patients and their families were heard.

Goals

The mandate was to create an awareness-raising video aimed at policy-makers and the general public, highlighting the benefits of data sharing in healthcare and the obstacles currently encountered from the point of view of cancer patients and their loved ones.

The project was carried out in collaboration with Data Lama, a company specializing in ethical and responsible data management.

We leveraged our combined expertise in the following areas:

  • Recruiting and preparing participants
  • Collaborative scriptwriting
  • Shooting
  • Video editing
  • Delivery and promotion
Information

Recruiting and preparing participants

Five patients or relatives of people living with cancer were selected on a voluntary basis to share their experiences and perspectives on access to health data.

The participants were chosen to represent a diversity of viewpoints and experiences.

Collaborative scriptwriting

The questions and script were developed with the participants to highlight their realities and concerns about the difficulties of sharing medical data.

Shooting

The filming location was selected for its character.

Half a day was devoted to filming, allowing each person to share their experience.

Video editing

The edited video testimonials highlight the most significant moments, highlighting the obstacles encountered and the concrete benefits of optimal healthcare data sharing.

We went back and forth with the Coalition and the participants to ensure that the video accurately reflected their messages and visions.

Delivery and promotion

The awareness-raising video gave a voice to people who are patients or relatives of people living with cancer, making their voices and their role heard in discussions on access to health data.

It helped raise awareness among the general public and political decision-makers of the benefits of data sharing in healthcare, highlighting the challenges and opportunities of the current system, particularly in the context of Law 3.

The various publications generated over 15,000 impressions on social media.

Conclusion

This case study shows how a collaboration between a communications agency, a company specializing in data management and a non-profit organization can result in the creation of engaged content, giving a voice to the key people concerned by the subject.
